HOISTED BY THE "North Okanogan Cross Country Ski Club" and held at Sovereign Lake Ski Area in Silver Star Park which is close to Vernon B.C. Siler Star Mountain - This has to be the place where X-C Skiers go when they die because it's the closest thing to ski heaven. Our Nationals were held on March 7-13 with four races, 2 classic and 2 free technique. Organization, trails conditions and food were exceptional. Every evening brought more powder snow, and our thermometer was stuck on minus five. Most days were sunny but the sonw never changed. A thoroughly enjoyable week of skiing. Stan Eaman, Raymond Wagner, all the organizers, workers and volunteers did an outstanding job of hoisting this event. Upon my arrival at silver star on Sunday Night one of my NF friends made note of the relaxed atmosphere at that day's race. This I found to be evident at the remaining three races. You arrived, warmed up, lined up and raced. I can recall being at competitions throughout the years where there was panic everywhere, someone yelling at you to get your ski's marked, screaming at you to go to the start line, but not so at these races. There was this laid-back, but efficient way of conducting the competition, not unlike the way we prefer to operate in my province, key words "remain calm".
