1999 WMA MEETING

GRINDLEWALD SWITZERLAND

(by JACK WHITE NATIONAL DIRECTOR)

Due to the Various problems cited in the report on WMC, this meeting had to be changed from the origionally scheduled date of Thursday March 4th, to Sunday February 28th. to make changes regarding race schedule along with regular agenda items. The meeting, which normally runs for several hours was condensed (similar to the races) to two hours. WMA President Dieter Heckmann had many other duties on his busy schedule. I would be willing to bet that in his years as President, Dieter has not had a more hectic eleven days. At some future date when I am no longer National Dirtector, I will do an item on Dieter and the incredible amount of work he puts into this non-paying volunteer position as WMA President.

ITEMS:

  • Gilles Grindler was introduced as the new National Director for France.
  • Representatives from Kiruna Sweden, site of the 2000 WMC, were present to speak
  • Canadas proposed change to race format will be looked at in Sept meeting. Proposed changes would have classic and fee events on consecutive days, women and older age groups would have earlier starts.
  • Quebec presented bid for 2002 WMC.
