The World Masters cross country ski association Rules of Competition for Masters Events 600 600.1 Entry qualifications 600.1.1 Male and female masters competitors must have reached their thirtieth birthday by the 31st of december of the preceding year. Passport License controls through WMA or OC are allowed. 600.1.2 Male and female masters competitors should be members of a National Ski Federation. If a National Ski Federation has certain guidelines on licenses, they have to be followed. 600.1.3 Male and female competitors who are members of a National Ski Team are not entitled to take part in Masters competitions (MWK). 601 Competition entry 601.1 The organizers will only accept competition entries for the MWC which are endorsed by the relevant WMA National Director. 601.2 The WMA National Director is responsible to the WMA and the organizing Committee for ensuring compliance with the requirements of Article 600.1. 601.3 Male and female entrants who are subsequently unable to compete in the MWC due to illness or accident are entitled to a reimbursement of 50 % of their entry fee on National Director's presentation of a doctors certificate during the MWC. 602 Preparation of the starting lists The starting lists are prepared by age classes. Forming of rows is based on the results of the last MWC's (3 years) with the pointing system of F.I.S. worked out by WMA. An exception to the rule has to be justified and needs the approval of WMA. 603 The jury 603.1 In addition to its duty to pass resolutions, the jury provides advice to the event Organizer on questions relating to the Masters competition. 603.2 The jury is comprised of five members: The Technical Delegate (TD) who acts as chairperson The Chief of Competition The WMA Technical Coordinator Two representatives of the teams competing in the event. 604 Masters competition courses 604.1 The requirements are set at approx. 50 % of those laid down by the rules for International skiing Federation (FIS). 604.2 Separate, less strenuous competition courses must be provided for women's competitions and for men over 60. 604.3 Competition courses for the MWC must be laid out as follows: 604.3.1 5 km course 1 circuit 604.3.2 10 km course 1 circuit 604.3.3 15 km course 1 circuit 604.3.4 20 km course 1 circuit or 2 x 10 km 604.3.5 30 km course 1 circuit or 2 x 15 km 604.3.6 45 km course 3 x 15 km 604.4 Relay courses *** in the process of change. 604.5 Elevation difference (HD) 604.5.1 The maximum difference in elevation between the highest and lowest point on a competition course must not exceed the following: Men 30-59 years All Women and Men 60 and older 604.5.2 5 km course 40 m 604.5.3 10 km course 75 m 60 m 604.5.4 15 km course 100 m 80 m 604.6 Maximum climb (MM) 604.6.1 The difference in elevation over an individual climb section of at least 140 m uninterrupted length - the so called maximum climb - must not exceed the following: Men 30-59 years All Women and Men 60 and older 604.6.2 5 km course 20 m 604.6.3 10 km course 40 m 30 m 604.6.4 15 km course 50 m 40 m 604.7 Total climb (MT) The total climb should be within the following limit values: Men 30-59 years Women 30-59, Men 60-69 years, Women 60 , Men 70 and older 604.7.1 5 km course 60-90 m 60-90 m 604.7.2 10 km course 100-180 m 100- 180 m 100-180 m 604.7.3 15 km course 200-300 m 160- 260 m 604.7.4 20 km course 200-360 m 604.7.5 30 km course 400-600 m 320-520 m 604.7.6 45 km course 700-900 m 604.7.7 The highest point on a MWC competition course must not exceed 1700 m above sea level. 604.8 Guidelines for climb sections 604.8.1 Major climbs (A) should be interrupted by short, level stretches and have an average gradient between 3 % and 6 %. 604.8.2 Short uphills (B climbs) can be interrupted. 604.8.3 The total climbs (MT) arrived at by aggregating all the major climbs should add up to about 35-55% (MT) of the total climbs (MT) for the course concerned. 604.8.4 25% to 35% of MT should be accounted for by B climbs. 604.8.5 15% to 35% of MT should be made up by broken ground, gentle climbs and steep climbs (C). 604.10 Course preparation 604.10.1 Two lanes have to be prepared on the ideal line for classical style competitions, with the left-hand lane used for overtaking. 604.10.2 For the competitions in the free technique the tracks have to be wide enough to allow passing. 604.11 Course marking 604.11.1 Colour coding 604.11.2 Course markings as per guidelines of WMA will include sing-boards, direction arrows, kilometre markers, flags and tapes with the following colour coding: 604.11.3 Men (30-59) 15 km, 30 km, 45 km Red 604.11.4 Men (60-69) 10 km, 15 km, 30 km Blue 604.11.5 Men (70 and over) 10 km, 15 km, 20 km Green 604.11.6 Women (30-59) 10 km, 15 km, 30 km Yellow 604.11.7 Women (60 and over) 10 km, 15 km, 20 km Green 605 Cross country ski stadium 605.1 For the stadium area 320 of IWO is applicable. 605.2 Additional decisions of WMA 605.2.1 For all individual races the area of the mass start has to be at least 30 m wide. 605.2.2 Between the areas of the mass start and the ski marking, additional room for about 120-150 racers has to be provided. 605.2.3 Close by the stadium, cabins or tents with electric devices should be made available to the various nations for ski waxing. 605.2.4 According to their number of participants, heated rooms (tents) have to be provided to the various nations for placing of warm-up clothes and skiing material. 606 Competition distances and technique: 606.1 Individual competition All distances in all age classes could be skied in either classical or free technique. A competitor may only participate in three individual races. 606.1.1 Men (30-59) 15 km, 30 km, 45 km 606.1.2 Men (60-69) 10 km, 15 km, 30 km 606.1.3 Men (70 and above) 10 km, 15 km, 20 km 606.1.4 Women (30-59) 10 km, 15 km, 30 km 606.1.5 Women (60 and above) 10 km, 15 km, 20 km 606.2 Relays 606.2.1 Each country may only enter one team in each age class. 606.2.2 Team entry forms and lists must carry an endorsement (signature) from the relevant WMA National Director. 606.2.3 Composition of relays 606.2.3.1 Women--It is allowed that a maximum of two racers can go down into a lower class. 606.2.3.2 Men--It is allowed that a maximum of two racers can go down into a lower age class. 606.3 Holding additional events during a Masters World Cup is prohibited. 607 Starting numbers individual competition 607.1 The background colours of competitors starting numbers 607.1.1 Men (30-59) Red 607.1.2 Men (60-69) Blue 607.1.3 Men (70 and over) Green 607.1.4 Women (30-59) Yellow 607.1.5 Women (60 and over) Green 608 Starting number sequences Individual competitions 608.1 Women (30-59) Yellow background 608.1.1 (30-34) 100-199 608.1.2 (35-39) 200-299 608.1.3 (40-44) 300-399 608.1.4 (45-49) 400-499 608.1.5 (50-54) 500-599 608.1.6 (55-59) 600-699 608.2 Women (60 and above) Green background 608.2.1 (60-64) 700-799 608.2.2 (65-69) 800-899 608.2.3 (70-74) 900-949 608.2.4 (75-79) 950-959 608.2.5 (80 and above) 960-970 608.3 Men (30-59) Red background 608.3.1 (30-34) 1000-1999 608.3.2 (35-39) 2000-2999 608.3.3 (40-44) 3000-3999 608.3.4 (45-49) 4000-4999 608.3.5 (50-54) 5000-5999 608.3.6 (55-59) 6000-6999 608.4 Men (60-69) Blue background 608.4.1 (60-64) 7000-7999 608.4.2 (65-69) 8000-8999 608.5 Men (70 and above) Green background 608.5.1 (70-74) 9000-9199 608.5.2 (75-79) 9500-9599 608.5.3 (80 and above) 9600-9999 609 Starting number relays 609.1 Colours of numbers: Separate colours shall be used for the start numbers for each relay section: 1st section----red 2nd section---green 3rd section---yellow 4th section---blue 610 Starting number sequences (relays) 611 Assignment to classes Individual competition 611.1 Male and female competitors are divided into separate men's and women's classes based on five-year age groups. 611.1.1 Class 1 30-34 years of age 611.1.2 Class 2 35-39 " 611.1.3 Class 3 40-44 " 611.1.4 Class 4 45-49 " 611.1.5 Class 5 50-54 " 611.1.6 Class 6 55-59 " 611.1.7 Class 7 60-64 " 611.1.8 Class 8 65-69 " 611.1.9 Class 9 70-74 " 611.1.10 Class 10 75-79 " 611.1.11 Class 11 80-and above 612 Assignment to classes Relays Men five year age groups---Women ten year age groups 613 Schedule of events 614 Time limits The WMA, the Organizers and the Jury reserve the right to impose time limits for longer distances, depending on the number of competitors, weather conditions, etc. 615 Disqualification of participants. The OC has the obligation to provide all participants with disqualification penalties prior to the beginning of a MWC. 615.1 Competitors lying about their age shall be banned for two years from the date of discovery of the fraud. Prizes and medals have to be returned. 615.2 Skating during classical competitions. 615.2.1 Disregarding during first or second competition: Disqualification for the race in question and suspension for the remaining races during the current MWC. 615.2.2 Disregarding during third competition Disqualification for the race in question and suspension for the MWC in the following year. 615.2.3 In the case of a racer not complying with the race style in more than one race (that means that the racer has repeated the offence) he/she will be barred from participation at MWC's for two years. 615.2.4 Infringements against the International Competition Rules (IWO): In the case of changing skis, short cutting/leaving the course, accepting help from third parties for waxing, etc. the racer will be disqualified for the current race. 615.3 Doping control..WMA allows doping tests at MWC's. Disqualification sanctions of F.I.S. are applicable. 616 Nationality.. A competitor must compete in a MWC for his/her country of residence of which he/she holds a passport. 617 Requirement specification-Time schedule. The WMA requirement for preparing and conducting MWC's is binding for the OC s.
